Fire Destroys Labone SHS Dorms

Labone Senior High School, which is locatedin Accra,has suffered a devastating fire, which destroyed three girls’ dormitories and left several belongings in ruins.

The fire, which occurred on Sunday, March 16, 2025, approximately 1:00 p.m., caused no casualties. Rather student mattresses, chop boxes, learning materials, and other essential items were completely consumed.Videos of the tragic incident circulated widely on social media.

According to reports, most students were at prep when the fire broke out. Speaking exclusively to 3News, ADO Alex King Nartey, a member of the Public Relations Department at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Headquarters, confirmed that one dormitory was entirely consumed by the flames, while two others suffered partial damage.

“We dispatched the fire tender at 13:00 hrs, arrived at 13:07 hrs, and had the fire under control by 13:42 hrs,” he stated.

Students affected by the fire have been evacuated to the assembly hall for temporary accommodation.The school’s management has ensured measures to secure the safety and well-being of its students.

Emergency responders acted swiftly to contain the blaze, preventing further destruction.

The GNFS has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, though initial suspicions point to an electrical fault. Meanwhile, school authorities have urged parents and the general public to remain calm, assuring them that the situation has been managed effectively.

Authorities are expected to provide updates as investigations progress.
