French President Macron Arrives in Ghana

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived Accra on Thursday for a day’s official visit to Ghana.

The visit to Ghana, the first for a French President, forms part of Mr Macron’s three- nation tour of Africa, which has taken him to Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire.

The French leader seeks to renew his country’s relations with Africa, as well as give a boost to the crusade against migration and Islamic militancy in the Sahel region.

His Ghana visit, considered historical because of its diplomatic and economic advantages, would emphasis trade, investment, education and sports, and bolster six decades of relations with Accra.

Mr Macron was met on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The French leader would join President Akufo-Addo at the Independence Square, where both leaders would lay wreaths and light the Perpetual Flame at the Liberation Monument at the Square.

They would later jointly address the media, after which they would retire to the Flagstaff for bilateral talks and Lunch.

Mr Macron would leave for his country later in the day.
