GAF, French Forces begin jungle training on galamsey fight

The Jungle Warfare School (JWS), in partnership with the French Embassy, has launched a three-week anti-illegal mining training popularly known as galamsey at the Seth Anthony Barracks in Akim Achiase, Eastern Region.

In a Facebook post by the Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday, January 21, the Commander of the Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, expressed gratitude to the French Armed Forces for the partnership and collaborative effort to curb illegal mining and protect Ghana’s natural resources.

He urged all participants to take the training seriously and actively engage in learning.

“Take the training seriously, ask questions to clear your mind; this is the only environment that is best for this training,” he said.

The French Defence Attaché, Colonel Gregoire Madelin, also thanked the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Williams Agyapong, and the Military High Command for allowing the training to be conducted in the jungle environment.

The programme will be led by a team of 15 French instructors, with three officers and 35 soldiers from the Ghana Armed Forces participating.
