Galamsey Pit Kills 3

Calamity struck when a deep Galamsey pit caved in and claimed the lives of three people at Bomiriso, near Konongo in the Ashanti Region.

The deceased have since been identified as two women and a boy. However, their exact names, ages, and other details were not readily available.

The heartbreaking incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, and it took rescuers several hours to pull the lifeless bodies from the debris.

According to eyewitness reports circulating in the community, a total of nine people entered the illegal mining pit to search for gold on that day.

They disclosed that the nine miners were digging for gold in the pit as they usually did, but calamity struck when the pit suddenly began to cave in.

According to them, six of the miners were quick enough to climb out of the deep pit to safety, but the other three could not escape.

After the pit collapsed, an alarm was raised, attracting scores of concerned residents who rushed to the scene to help rescue the trapped miners.

Eyewitnesses stated that after many hours of searching through the huge debris, the three victims were recovered in the evening, but they had already passed away.

The bodies have since been deposited at the Konongo Government Hospital for preservation and autopsy, as the police have commenced their investigations.
