Ganja Ice-cream and Drinks: 10 Students Busted

Officers of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) have arrested 10 students of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) for allegedly manufacturing and selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice creams during the university’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on the university campus between Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, 2026.

According to NACOC, officers arrested 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh, believed to be the ringleader, together with nine other young men suspected to be part of an organised network involved in the production, distribution and sale of cannabis-infused products.

The Commission said the suspects allegedly sold the narcotic-laced drinks and ice creams to unsuspecting students and patrons during the celebrations before officers moved in to disrupt the operation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the group had established an organised distribution network to trade the illegal products on campus.

NACOC expressed concern over what it described as an emerging trend of young people commercialising illegal substances under the guise of entrepreneurship and entertainment. It warned that educational institutions must remain places of learning and character development rather than centres for illicit drug activities.

The Commission reiterated that all forms of cannabis-infused food, beverages and other consumable products remain illegal under Ghanaian law. It stressed that anyone involved in their manufacture, sale or distribution would face the full rigours of the legal system.

NACOC commended its operational team for carrying out the operation without incident and assured the public that it would intensify intelligence-led surveillance to identify and dismantle similar networks targeting vulnerable young people across the country.

The Commission also urged parents, university authorities, student leaders and the general public to remain vigilant and report suspected drug-related activities to help protect educational institutions from substance abuse.

All 10 suspects remain in NACOC custody assisting with investigations and will be processed for court in due course, the Commission said.
