GAR Hospital Admits First Patient At New ICU

The Greater Accra Regional Hospital has officially operationalised its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with its limited staff.

So far, the hospital has admitted its first patient.

The Medical Director, Dr Emmanuel Kwabla Srofenyoh revealed that they are committed to operationalise the ICU to its fullest. “We shall provide quality ICU services and make the Unit the best in the metropolis,” he added.

This development follows an announced visit to the Regional Hospital by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare.

The Director General during his visit gave the Regional Hospital management an ultimatum of 15 January 2018 to operationalise the 36-bed capacity ICU.

The hospital’s management said they are awaiting the supporting staff the Director General assured them.

An intensive care unit, or ICU, is a specialized section of a hospital that provides comprehensive and continuous care for persons who are critically ill and who can benefit from treatment.
