GARBAGE SWALLOWS OYOKO …Residents Scared Of Cholera Outbreak

THERE IS fear of a possible cholera outbreak at Oyoko, in the Sekyere Kumawu District, in the Ashanti region, as heaps of garbage had not been cleared from the main refuse dumping site in the farming community for several months, despite frantic efforts by residents to get authorities to clear the garbage.

The pile of garbage had started emanating a stench, which has become a great worry to the residents. Some of them told the paper that the pile of garbage had made its way into a nearby stream, which also serves as the main source of drinking water.

Opanin Kwaku Afari told the paper that it was God, who had prevented an outbreak of disease in the town till now.

Another resident, Madam Akua Afriyie implored the authorities concerned to quickly clear the garbage from the town to avert an outbreak of disease.

She said residents of the town also pay taxes just as any other Ghanaian, and should be fairly treated as those in the cities.
