A section of the youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Garu Constituency have taken to the streets in protest against their Member of Parliament, Hon. Thomas Winsum Anabah, accusing him of neglecting the constituency and failing to fulfill campaign promises.
The angry youth, clad in red and black attire, marched through the principal streets of Garu with placards bearing inscriptions such as “Garu deserves better,” “I can’t work with you, MP”, “We are tired of empty promises,” and “Anabah has hijacked the NDC Party in Garu”.
In addition, the group alleged that the MP has not demonstrated fairness in the distribution of political appointments within the constituency.
The protest, which drew dozens of supporters, ended at the NDC constituency office, where leaders of the group presented a petition to party executives.
At a press conference held after delivering the petition, the aggrieved NDC youth cited several concerns, including alleged favouritism in the allocation of the School Feeding Programme, as well as reported attempts by the MP to reappoint an individual as the Garu District Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
“Dr. Anaba came to us with big promises—jobs, infrastructure, youth empowerment—but all we’ve seen is silence. Our roads are still bad, there’s no youth development, and anytime we try to reach him, he’s nowhere to be found,” leader of the group stated.
He further accused the MP of sidelining the grassroots of the party and running the affairs of the constituency like a “one-man show.”
“We the youth are the backbone of the NDC here in Garu, but we feel completely abandoned. If this continues, we will advise ourselves ahead of the 2028 elections,” he warned.
They have therefore called on the national and regional executives of the NDC to intervene and rein in the MP’s conduct.
“We call on the national and regional executives of the party to call Dr Anabah to order and urge him to desist from running a parallel administration,” he added.
In response, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr John Abugba Abaare, who responded to the allegations on behalf of the MP, refuted the allegations made by the group.
He attributed the misunderstanding to poor coordination among the NDC constituency executives in Garu.
