GFA to Honour Asamoah Gyan with Testimonial Match

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed plans to hold a special testimonial match in honour of Ghana’s all-time top scorer and former national team captain, Asamoah Gyan, popularly known as “Baby Jet.”

In a statement issued by the GFA’s Communications Department on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Association said the event will celebrate Gyan’s outstanding contribution to Ghanaian football and his remarkable achievements with the Black Stars since making his debut in 2003.

“The Ghana Football Association is set to organize a testimonial match in honor of legendary Ghanaian striker and former Black Stars caption, Asamoah Gyan, to celebrate his illustrious career and immense contribution to Ghanaian football.
Through his dazzling performances, leadership, and charisma, Asamoah Gyan has left an indelible mark on Ghanaian and African football. The upcoming testimonial promises to be a memorable occasion to honour his legendary achievements and celebrate a career that inspired millions across the continent,” the statement read.

Although the GFA has not yet confirmed the date and venue, it assured the public that discussions with Gyan are ongoing to finalise arrangements. Further details are expected to be announced soon.

Gyan’s exceptional international career spanned sixteen years, during which he scored fifty-one goals in one hundred and nine appearances for the Black Stars. He made his debut for Ghana at just seventeen, scoring a last-minute goal against Somalia on November 19, 2003.

The legendary striker also holds the record as Africa’s top scorer in FIFA World Cup history, with six goals across three tournaments, Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.

Gyan started his professional career at Liberty Professionals before moving to Udinese in Italy. Over the years, he played for several clubs, including Modena, Rennes, Sunderland, Al Ain, Al Ahli, Shanghai SIPG, and Kayserispor. He ended his illustrious football journey with Legon Cities FC in 2021.
