The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum as the new Head of Coach Education and head coach of the national U-17 team, the Black Starlets.
This was officially announced on Monday, July 28, 2025, as part of efforts to improve the technical leadership of Ghana football.
Dr. Ogum takes over the coaching role from Frimpong Manso, who will now focus on managing Bibiani Gold Stars in their debut CAF Champions League campaign. He also replaces Desmond Ofei as Head of Coach Education. Ofei will now concentrate fully on his role as assistant coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The GFA thanked both Manso and Ofei for their services. Ofei recently led Ghana’s U-20 team to a silver medal at the WAFU Zone B Championship in Côte d’Ivoire, securing qualification for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Dr. Ogum brings a strong background in Ghanaian football. He previously coached top clubs like Asante Kotoko and WAFA.
He helped Kotoko win the Ghana Premier League and also guided WAFA to a second-place finish. He has worked with Ebusua Dwarfs and served as an assistant coach for the Black Galaxies.
In his new roles, Dr. Ogum will be responsible for training and licensing coaches at all levels in Ghana, using modern coaching methods. He will also lead the Black Starlets as they prepare for the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Nigeria this September, which will serve as a qualifier for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The GFA believes Dr. Ogum’s experience and academic background will help improve both youth football and the development of local coaches. His focus on tactical discipline and youth development makes him the right person to lead the Black Starlets back to continental success.
