GH¢28m Needed for Ofankor Health Centre, Others – Minister

The Ministry of Health has said some GHc28 million is needed to operationalize some seven abandoned health facilities nationwide by 2019.

The sector Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu told Citi News these health facilities include the health center at Ofankor near Accra which has been left to rot after years of its completion.

Inusah Fuseini, the former minister under whose supervision the health centre at Ofankor was started, had earlier said operationalising the facility delayed because of inadequate medical facilities.

Back in June, the Ga West Municipal Assembly said it was spending some GHc 1.2 million to operationalize the Health Centre.

But it appears no headway has been made as Mr. Agyemang Manu said a budget has now been submitted to the Finance Ministry for assessment.

“I have had a chat with the Roads Minister and it is like there is no money left as part of the contract to operationalize these facilities. So we have done a budget and we have submitted to the Finance Ministry and we believe that in the course of this budget cycle we have starting this week, we will get money to start operationalizing them come next year [2019].”

He also noted that some of the projects require some civil and expansion works.

“We are looking at about GHc28 million; they have no equipment. There are some little civil works to be done again. There is some expansion [too]. There are about seven of them; I am talking about the one at Ofankor. There are [also] about four of them in some parts of the Northern Region”.
