Ghana Film Industry Wastes Talent – Gloria Sarfo Laments

Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has spoken out about her deep disappointment with the current state of Ghana’s film industry.

In a passionate Instagram post on July 15, 2025, she compared the country’s slow-moving movie scene to Nigeria’s thriving film sector, saying Ghanaian talents are being wasted.

“Honestly, if you’re in Nigeria as an actor, you’d realize that you’ve REALLY WASTED YOUR TALENT back in Ghana. As in, people are shooting on a daily basis, back-to-back, nonstop. Meanwhile, in my country Ghana, producers STRUGGLE to even shoot one film in a year,” she wrote.

According to Sarfo, actors in Nigeria are given many more opportunities, with frequent productions and better industry support.

She called the situation in Ghana “CRAZY” and “totally disheartening,” and asked, “What has happened to our industry??? Talents are BEING WASTED. Mercy Lord.”

In her caption, Sarfo explained that she had heard similar concerns from family, friends, and fans who believe she is not reaching her full potential in Ghana.

“This MUST be looked at, seriously. Look there are lots and lots of talent wasting in Ghana year by year, trust me,” she wrote.

She also emphasized how often she recommends Ghanaian actors for roles because she strongly believes in the talent available in the country.

“I’m just here recommending people left right center, cos I KNOW what we have back in my country, I KNOOOOOOOOOOOW,” she added.

Sarfo praised the Nigerian film industry for creating space for actors to succeed.

“Great great talents, who’ll do exceptionally WELL in Nigeria meeeehn. And there are people to PUSH THEM too. But in our CASE… Oh my HEART,” she shared.

Looking back, Sarfo pointed out that the Ghanaian film industry used to be vibrant and busy.

“It was the other way round just some few years ago, so WHAT HAPPENED, WHAT REALLY HAPPENED. Or is it the NUMBERS, or WHAT?” she asked.

She suggested that perhaps actors themselves must start producing their own films to keep their careers moving forward.

Gloria Sarfo, known for her role in Efiewura and her award-winning performance in The Perfect Picture: Ten Years Later, continues to be a strong voice for the growth of Ghana’s film industry.
