Ghana Starts Earthquake Drills

Ghana National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is to carry out a full-scale earthquake simulation exercise with the North Dakota National Guard of the United States of America.

The exercise, which begins Tuesday, 8 May, is to assess NADMO’s preparedness in handling earthquake disasters.

There have been a few earth tremors lately, and experts have warned of an imminent earthquake.

The 15-member North Dakota National Guard, together with the country’s security agencies and first responders, will train vis-à-vis a 5.5 magnitude earthquake on tactical operations, communication and disaster response.

Director-General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, charged participants to take advantage of the exercise to improve their emergency response skills.
