‘Ghanaians feel insecure under Akufo-Addo’s tenure’ – Mahama

Former President, John Dramani Mahama says the weak leadership of President Akufo-Addo has led Ghana into a state of insecurity.

According to him, the situation has resulted in the spate of heinous crimes recorded in the country lately including the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale among others.

”There seems to be a state of Robbery, unfortunate security matters which didn’t exist before are all happening under Nana Addo’s watch. Kidnapping of Children and many which Ghanaians can testify to it. We feel a real threat of terrorism. Recent reports shows some of these reports are getting close to the arena of Ghana.” he said.

Mr Mahama further urged Akufo-Addo to “put an end to his passive and aloof style of governance and adopt a more hands-on, problem-solving approach especially in the face of the upsurge in violent crimes and unexplained killings.”

According to him, the governing party’s poor handling of the recent incidents including violent attacks and assault on journalists, the murder of an investigative journalist with Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ TigerEye PI team, Ahmed Suale and attacks on Manasseh Azure is to blame for the drop in Ghana’s media credentials on the international scene.

”Security is important because it is necessary for a Nation’s progress. Without security, if citizens don’t feel secure. It affects investment, it makes people anxious and it affects development and so security is something government needs to take steps seriously in making it a success.” he cited.

He again called on government and security agencies in the country to work judiciously in bringing the menace of insecurity rising up to a better statue.
