Ghanaians Urged to Pay Their Taxes Promptly

Mr Jobila Mohammed Zakari, the Techiman Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on Ghanaians to pay their taxes promptly for accelerated national development.

He said voluntary payment of taxes was a mark of good citizenship which must be adopted by all.

Mr. Zakari made the call during separate meetings with the Techiman Maize Sellers Association and traders at the timber market.

The meeting formed part of a tax compliance education campaign, being implemented by the NCCE in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The goal is to sensitize the public on the need to honour their tax obligations voluntarily.

The NCCE director underlined the need for the citizenry to pay their taxes regularly to enable government to effectively prosecute its development agenda.

He said government’s quest to improve on infrastructural development and build a strong economy could not be achieved if the people failed to honour their tax obligation.

Describing taxes as lifeblood of every government, he said it was imperative for Ghanaians to see payment of tax as a civic responsibility which must be done voluntarily.

He told the participants that, as business people, their taxes would help to stabilize the economy and help improve the living conditions of all.

Mr. Asumah Abdulai, Chairman of the Maize Sellers Association commended the NCCE for the education and charged members to be good citizens by paying their taxes.
