Gloria Sarfo Vows to Fix Ghana’s Film Industry

Award-winning Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has vowed to keep fighting for change in Ghana’s struggling film industry.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, the outspoken actress said although some colleagues criticise her for being too vocal about industry challenges, she will not stop. Her passion, she explained, is driven by a desire to secure a better future for the next generation of filmmakers.

“I used to say the Ghanaian film industry is not worth dying for but I have changed my mind. Because I think that I am fighting for the next generation of film makers. Not the people who think they are okay, who think they are satisfied, they are content with where they are; with where they are movie industry is. I am fighting for the next generation,” she said.

According to her, many young actors reach out to her privately, sharing their frustrations and encouraging her not to give up her advocacy.

In an Instagram post on July 15, 2025, Sarfo lamented that many talented Ghanaian actors could excel elsewhere, especially in Nigeria, but their abilities are being wasted at home.

“Honestly, if you’re in Nigeria as an actor, you’d realize that you’ve REALLY WASTED YOUR TALENT back in Ghana,” she wrote. “As in, people are shooting on a daily basis, back to back, non stop. Meanwhile, in my country Ghana, producers STRUGGLE to even shoot one film in a year.”

She described the situation as “CRAZY” and “totally disheartening,” wondering “What has happened to our industry??? Talents are BEING WASTED. Mercy Lord.”

Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some accusing her of portraying Ghana negatively.

Gloria Sarfo has starred in several films, including Efiewura, The Perfect Picture, Aloe Vera, and Adam The Eve.
