GMA, ASMA’s GH¢33,100 debt to Pantang cleared

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has presented GH¢33,100 to Pantang Hospital to cover outstanding costs incurred in rescuing and treating people with mental health conditions found on the streets.

The amount represents debts owed to the hospital by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly (ASMA), according to PAC Chairperson Abena Osei-Asare.

Speaking during a committee hearing, she said the payment fulfilled an earlier commitment to help the hospital recover the money and clear the outstanding amount from its books.

“Pantang Hospital, the other time you visited us, there were some outstanding payments that had to do with GMA and Akuapem South Municipal Assembly and you explained the circumstances surrounding the debt and public accounts said they were going to make sure they pay their money. So today we are here to deliver on what we said, a total of 33,100 Ghana Cedis.”

She said the hospital should complete the necessary validation with the Audit Service to have the related audit infraction removed from its records.

“On behalf of the public accounts committee, we’d like to defray that cost and then you do the needful and send the validation to audit service so that that particular infraction will be taken out of the books in respect of Pantang Hospital. Pantang Hospital, on behalf of the public accounts committee, we’d like to take this debt off your books,” she said.
