GMA Disowns ‘Coup’ Doctor

The Ghana Medical Association has revealed that the beleaguered CEO of the Citadel Hospital, Dr. Frederick Mac-Palm is not in good standing with the association.

According to the GMA, Dr. Mac-Palm whom together with two others had been slapped with three charges including the manufacturing of firearms and explosives has not fulfilled his obligations since he first became a member in 2014.

This follows a revelation by the Dental and Medical Council that the doctor has also not renewed his license to practice for this year.

Speaking to Citi News, the President of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Frank Ankonbea said his outfit will at the appropriate time deal with the matter.

“He registered with the Ghana Medical Association in May 2014 so we have his name in our records. One of the first men who registered with us but truth be told, since that time he has not actually performed his duties. For instance, he has not been paying his dues since that time so he is not in good standing.”

“The man has been arrested and sent to court so let us see what happens in court. If the court says the allegations are not true, for that matter he must be freed so be it. All I know is that for now, he is not a member in good standing with the Association,” he added.

A joint security operation last Friday led to the arrest of three suspects allegedly plotting to destabilize the country after a raid on the Citadel Hospital which Dr. Mac-Palm manages.

The three suspects have so far been charged with conspiracy to manufacture arms and ammunition without lawful authority.

Additional charges of possession of explosives and firearms without lawful authority and manufacture of firearms without lawful authority were also levelled against them.

The pleas of the three; Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, Ezor Kafui and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu were however not taken by the court.

Following that, on Monday, the government revealed that the raid foiled a plot targetted at the presidency “with the ultimate aim of destabilising the country.”

The government subsequently came out to say that three military personnel have also been arrested.

The operation followed 15 months of surveillance and gathering of evidence on the activities of the suspects.

The lawyer for the three, Victor Adawudu, has also said his clients have denied the allegations levelled against them.

He reported that his clients knew nothing about the weapons found after a raid at the Citadel Hospital last Friday.
