GMet warns of heavy thunderstorms and rain

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has predicted mostly cloudy weather across the country with localised thunderstorms and rain expected for long hours.

In its latest weather advisory, issued yesterday, July 6, Duty Forecaster Nancy Frimpong Asare indicated that mist and fog patches will form in the early morning over coastal, forested, and mountainous areas, potentially reducing visibility in those zones.

GMet said slight to moderate rainfall is expected in the northern, forest, and coastal belts.

As the day progresses, most areas will remain largely cloudy with occasional periods of sunshine. However, by late afternoon into the evening, thunderstorms or rain of varying intensities are likely to affect several parts of the country.

Major cities such as Accra, Ho, Cape Coast and Kasoa are forecast to receive rainfall by evening. Northern towns, including Wa, Yendi, Tamale and Bolgatanga, may also experience scattered thunderstorms and rain.

The sea state has been described as rough, and GMet has cautioned those involved in maritime activities to remain vigilant.

The agency urged the public, especially residents in flood-prone areas and places with low visibility, to take appropriate precautions.
