Government Embarks On Mass Construction Of Hospitals

In order to bridge the gap to the access of equitable and quality health care in Ghana, the government has begun extensive provision of infrastructure and medical interventions in various part of the country.

This timely intervention comes in the form of the continuation of on-going hospital projects as well as the starting up of new healthcare infrastructures.

Taking his turn at the Meet the Press series organised last Thursday, under the auspices of the Information Ministry, the Minister of Health, Mr KwakuAgyeman-Manu said, it was government’s plan to make sure that every district has at least one very good facility that can take in referrals from the CHIPS Compounds, clinics and other health facilities.

Western Region

In outlining the various projects, he stated that the Western Region would soon receive one district hospital and five polyclinics.

According to the minister, these projects have received approval from Orio (a facility that helps develop infrastructure in developing countries) who is providing a 35 per cent grant.

The project seeks to upgrade six existing primary healthcare facilities in six districts in the Western Region of Ghana.

The locations include Akontombra, Elubo, Bogoso, Nsuaem, WassaDunkwa, and Mpohor.

Central Region

The Construction and equipping of 10 polyclinics in the Central Region is on-going and at various levels of completion.

The projects are at Bisease,GomoaDawurampong, Akunfude, EtsiiSunkwa and OdobenGyamera.

The rest are at Biriwa, EkumfiNaakwa, Mankrong, BimpongEgya and GomoaPotsin.

Greater Accra

The minister revealed that in the nation’s capital, the constructionof five polyclinics were also at various stages of completion.

These constructions are located in Adenta, Ashaiman, Bortiano, Oduman and Sege.

“On the construction of five district hospital in Sawla, Tolon, Somanya, Buipe, Wheta and a Polyclinic in Bamboi, both Cabinet and Parliamentary approvals for this project have been received and Value for Money auditing has been completed and awaiting final report from Ministry of Finance,” MrAgyeman-Manu said.
