Gov’t Offers GHC10 Independence Day bundle with 6GB data

The Ghanaian government has reached an agreement with the country’s three major telecommunications networks to offer a special Independence Day data bundle, significantly increasing the value of internet access for users.

According to a statement shared by Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George on his official Facebook page, the initiative was undertaken under the instructions of President John Dramani Mahama as part of efforts to promote digital accessibility.

According to the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, the agreement involves MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT Ghana, all of which have agreed to provide a GHS10 bundle offering 6GB of data—a sharp increase from the usual 1GB regular offering or the 3GB typically offered on holidays for the same price.

“This highlights our commitment as a government to build the enablers for a truly digitalised Ghana that offers the vast opportunity of the interconnected world to Ghanaians right in the comfort of their homes,” Sam George stated.

The announcement comes amid growing calls for more affordable internet services in Ghana, where data costs remain a concern for many citizens.

Additionally, the Ministry is expected to outline short, medium, and long-term plans on Friday, March 7, aimed at achieving a sustained reduction in data prices.

The post further reads, “This highlights our commitment as a government to build the enablers for a truly digitalized Ghana that offers the vast opportunity of the interconnected world to Ghanaians right in the comfort of their homes. Tomorrow, the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations would outline short-, medium- and long-term plans towards a sustained reduction in data prices.”

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of enhancing digital inclusion and ensuring that internet services remain affordable and accessible to all Ghanaians.
