Gov’t Will Soon Commission More 1D1F Projects – Alan

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, has said government’s plan to facilitate the construction factories in every district is very much on course.

Addressing the chief and people of Gomoa Oyaandze in the Central Region over the weekend, Mr. Kyerematen noted that very soon, President Nana Akufo-Addo will be traveling across the country commissioning factories under the One District, One Factory initiative.

The Akufo-Addo administration has faced some criticism for the slow pace at which the One District, One Factory initiative, a major campaign promise, is being realised. But Alan Kyerematen says the factories will be delivered.

“Almost every week, the President will commission one factory. Ghanaians will see that they have a leader who is not in office to deceive them,” he assured.

The Minister also told the people of Gomoa they would receive a starch factory like the one in Bajiawse.

Over the weekend, President Akufo-Addo inspected ongoing works at the Casa de-Ropa Ltd, which is envisioned to be part of the One District, One Factory initiative.

This project is being supported by the EXIM Bank, and is located at Gomoa Beadze, near Winneba. The factory is sited on a 500-acre land, and currently has over 100 acres of sweet potato under cultivation. The factory also has developed five dams to irrigate the farms, and thereby ensure all year farming.

The company processes Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato into four main products namely “Nature’s Harvest Potato Bread”, “Nature’s Harvest Potato Crisp”, “Nature’s Harvest Potato Chips”, and “Nature’s Harvest Potato Biscuits.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), has indicated that 19 factories have so far been completed nationwide under the One District, One Factory initiative.

In August, President Akufo-Addo said a total of 36 factories were are at various stages of operationalization.

The first factory under initiative was inaugurated in Tamale; a motorcycle assembling plant located at Lamashegu which is a Public – Private- Partnership between the government of Ghana and a Chinese private company known as Motorking Company Limited.

So far the Ministry of Trade and Industry has screened 329 proposals for the construction of factories under the One District, One Factory programme.
