‘Group of the Year’ Category Back On TGMA List

The Group of the Year category, which was missing from the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards nominees announcement, will be revealed this week.

Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse, organisers of the awards, gave the update in an interview on Hitz FM.

“Oh yea, it will be announced this week. It could even be today,” he told Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz.

Klah clarified that the Group of the Year category is among a few other categories yet to be unveiled.

“The Group of the Year category has not been cancelled. I never announced that it has been cancelled. What I said was that there were some categories we had not released and those categories will be released,” he explained.

Aside from Group of the Year, other categories to be announced include African Song and Music for Good.

“Music for Good, we usually announce it later but we are going to announce it early because we want people to understand what happens in that space. So if you announce it early then people will see that these are the works that have been done. It can inspire people to use their music to do good,” Klah added.

On the reason for the delay in announcing these categories, he said,

“There are quite a number of things; I may not be able to share. I understand that for media you are interested in information but then again it is not everything that you would want to share. But the reality is that we did announce that some of the categories that were not announced would be announced later.”

Since the nominees were revealed, some artistes, including Keche and Lali x Lola, have expressed concern over the absence of the Group of the Year category. Industry stakeholders have also argued that cancelling the category due to claims of uncompetitiveness would be wrong.

The 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards main ceremony is scheduled for May 9, 2026, and fans are eagerly awaiting the full list of nominees.
