GTA Orders Closure Of Beaches

Beaches in Ghana have been closed by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) “until further notice”.

As a result, National Security operatives as well as officers of the Ghana Police Service will begin patrols along the beaches “to ensure compliance with the closure”.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has ordered all gatherings to cease as he has recommended social distancing.

A statement issued by the Authority on Monday said the closure comes as a follow-up to the president’s directive.

“The general public and tourist business operators are urged to be mindful of the precautionary measures announced by the President of the Republic to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Ghana recorded high tourists last year as a result of the ‘Year of Return’ but hoteliers have complained the outbreak of Covid-19 seems to be eroding all the profits made.
