Gyokeres backs Arsenal’s title charge after 3-0 win over Fulham

Arsenal Football Club striker Viktor Gyokeres says the Gunners are on the right path to winning trophies this season following their 3-0 win over Fulham in the English Premier League.

Gyokeres scored twice at the Emirates Stadium to take his league tally to 14 goals in 33 appearances in his debut season.

The result moved Arsenal six points clear of closest rivals Manchester City, with three matches left to play. City, however, has two games in hand.

Arsenal is also chasing success in the UEFA Champions League, where Mikel Arteta’s side will host Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final on Tuesday, May 5, with the tie level at 1-1 on aggregate.

Gyokeres said the team must maintain its current momentum as it pushes for silverware on multiple fronts.

“We showed a good performance and are happy to have got the three points. I think we always go into games believing we’re going to play well and create a lot of chances.”

“Today we did that and we enjoyed it. We’re on a good path, but we have to stay there and keep going like this” he said to Sky.

Arteta Mikel Happy

Arsenal Football Club manager Mikel Arteta has described his team’s performance as “incredible” after a 3-0 win over Fulham.

A brace from Viktor Gyokeres and a goal by Bukayo Saka secured the victory, moving Arsenal six points clear of closest title rivals, Manchester City.

The Gunners have three matches left in the English Premier League season, though they have played two games more than City.

Speaking to the BBC after the win, ahead of Arsenal’s second-leg semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, May 5, Arteta said the team delivered one of their most complete performances of the season.

“I’m extremely happy today. It was a really tough match to play. I think the team played incredibly well today. We dominated and showed the hunger we discussed before the game. We have the opportunity to win two major competitions. We’re games away from achieving that. Today, they showed the kind of team we are.”
