Haruna Didn’t Call Nana Addo Over ‘Double Salary’ Saga – Adawudu

The lawyer for some former ministers and Members of Parliament accused of taking double salaries; Victor Adawudu, has debunked claims that the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, placed a  call to President Akufo-Addo to intervene in the matter.

The Majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, is alleged to have stated that the Minority Leader asked the presidency to intervene in the ongoing investigations.

“The Minority Leader has spoken to the president that some intervention must be done to save the image of Parliament,” he reportedly said.

But speaking to the media at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), today [Wednesday], the lawyer said the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs was not truthful.

“It is not true,” Adawudu said, urging Ghanaians not to “spew” such falsehood. It is not true, and I don’t have that information.”

He insisted that the claim by the Majority Leader is a ploy “twist [the] facts.”

Some National Democratic Congress MPs have been criticized over allegations that they received double salaries while serving as both Members of Parliament and Ministers or Deputy Ministers.

The former Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah as well as former Transport Minister and MP for Ketu South, Fiifi Kwetey, and Dr Rashid Pelpuo, Member of Parliament for the Wa Central constituency, took their turns at the CID head office in Accra today [Wednesday].

Former Ministers; Inusah Fuseini, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe Ghansah and Eric Opoku, met the CID on Tuesday, where they were told that they were being investigated for stealing.

They were discharged, but are expected to report back at the CID on May 14, 2018.

Victor Kojogah Adawudu had earlier argued that the actions against his clients will not be fruitful.

“This will not go anywhere; legally this will not fly. Those who are MPs and Ministers within the NPP, how much is their salary. The President should tell us who has determined his salary. They are being paid by Controller, and Parliament is paying them… that has been the convention since 1993. Why are you zeroing in from only 2013?”
