Heal Old Wounds and Unite for 2028 victory  – Paul Afoko to NPP

National Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has urged members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON) of the party to make unity the foundation of the party’s quest to return to power in 2028.

Speaking at the Blue Dialogue, organised by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) TESCON under the theme, “Energizing the Base for Victory 2028,” Mr. Afoko stressed that no political party can achieve electoral success if it is divided.

Addressing students and party faithful, he said unity remains the NPP’s greatest strength and called on the party’s youth wing to reject factionalism and work together towards a common purpose.

“My fellow patriots, every successful political party is built on unity of purpose. No political party can achieve victory while divided against itself,” he said.

He cautioned TESCON members against internal conflicts, urging them to remember that they all belong to one political family.

“I hope and pray that amongst you young ones here, you are not doing that. Don’t turn on yourselves. We are one party,” he stated.

Mr. Afoko reminded the gathering that the NPP has historically achieved its greatest successes when members put aside their differences and rallied around the party’s shared ideals.

“History teaches us that the NPP is strongest when we stand together and weakest when we allow differences to become divisions. We can have differences, but those differences should not divide us. Our tradition has always accommodated diverse views, different personalities and difficult debates,” he noted.

He further explained that while differing opinions are an essential part of democracy, they should never be allowed to breed hostility within the party.

“Democracy thrives on disagreement; however, disagreement must never become hostility. The NPP belongs to all its members. It belongs to the founding generation who sacrificed for this party, it belongs to polling station executives, regional leaders, Members of Parliament, party leadership and the young men and women of TESCON who represent the future,” he said.

Calling for reconciliation within the party, the National Chairman hopeful said rebuilding trust among members must take precedence over factional interests.

“The first task before us is to heal old wounds, rebuild trust and restore a sense of family within our ranks. Our focus should not be about who belongs to which faction,” he added.
