The Ministry of Health has confirmed that all health workers have so far been cleared to receive their outstanding salaries and allowances.
Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Saturday, March 14, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Tony Goodman, said the government has taken steps to ensure all pending payments are addressed.
“So far, all have been cleared in the sector. The good news is that the Minister for Health and the Minister for Finance have worked to clear these allowances and salaries,” Goodman said.
He added that with the arrears addressed, the Ministry is now focusing on recruiting additional staff to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide.
“Where we are now is some of the staff we need to employ to augment what we have. We are making sure that within a week or two, we will receive some clearance to deal with those numbers we want to add to the staff we currently have,” he said.
The Ministry had earlier announced in a statement dated March 13 that financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance (Ghana) covers allowances and salaries for 14,279 rotation nurses and midwives and 637 medical and dental house officers across the country.
“The Ministry of Health has secured financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance for the payment of allowances and salaries for 14,219 rotation nurses and midwives, as well as 637 medical and dental house officers. The approval follows sustained engagements between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to ensure that newly trained health professionals are duly supported as they undertake their mandatory service and professional training” part of the statement reads.
It continued, “With respect to nurses the clearance covers key nursing cadres including Registered General Nurses, Registered Midwives, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Registered Community Health Nurses, and Registered Public Health Nurses who started their rotation last year and are due to complete this year. In addition, financial clearance has also been granted for the payment of salaries of 637 Medical and Dental House Officers who graduated from various public and private institutions, successfully passed the Medical and Dental Council examinations, and were inducted into service on 12th November 2025.”
