Health workers get free vegetables from Agritop

DOCTORS AND Nurses at the Kumasi South Hospital at Atonsu Agogo, have taken home free but large quantities of fresh vegetables for their roles in fighting COVID-19.

Agritop Limited did the presentation in partnership with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and it is mainly intended to reward the health personnel for their efforts so far.

The items presented to the health workers are 400 kilograms of Cucumber and 500 kilograms of Tomatoes, which combined, is estimated to cost an amount of GHC 8,000.

Agritop, who have been working with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for the past two years, has three farms in Ghana located at Dawhenya, Bawjiase and Akumadan.

Significantly, the donation to the Kumasi South Hospital was made by the Akumadan Farm. It was intended to serve as a motivation to the doctors and nurses.

Nancy Tamakloe Otibo, a top official of Agritop, in her remarks, said the timely donation formed part of Agritop’s corporate social responsibilities to help fight COVID-19.

“We decided to support in the fight against COVID-19 by giving vegetables to help boost the immunity systems as they take care of COVID-19 patients”, she said with a smile.

Nancy Tamakloe Otibo added that the COVID-19 has deepened reported cases of hunger across the globe, leading to urgent need food supplies and Agritop is helping to provide hunger relief items.

According to her, the timely donation would not be a flash in a pan, promising that Agritop would not hesitate to extend a helping hand to those in need when the need arises.

Dr. Ofori Boadu, Medical Director at the Kumasi South Hospital, said the fresh tomatoes and cucumbers would help in the diet therapy to fight the deadly Coronavirus.
