England and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has praised Ghanaian forward Mohammed Kudus for his brilliant performances for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League this season.
Kudus has been in outstanding form since joining Spurs from West Ham United in a £55 million deal. The Ghanaian star has already been involved in five goals, scoring once and providing four assists, making him one of Tottenham’s most influential players this season.
In Tottenham’s recent clash against Leeds United, Kudus played a key role in his team’s 2-1 victory. He created the opening goal in the 23rd minute with a perfectly timed pass to Mathys Tel, who fired home a powerful 20-yard strike to give Spurs the lead.
Leeds later equalized, but Kudus responded with a moment of brilliance in the second half, cutting across the edge of the box before curling a low shot into the bottom corner to seal the win.
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Rooney couldn’t hide his admiration for the 24-year-old’s performances.
“I think he’s been a breath of fresh air. When you look at the stats from today’s game against Leeds, he’s first in every category, duels won, successful dribbles, shots, touches in the opposition box, sprints. He’s had a real impact for Tottenham this season,” Rooney said.
He added, “He’s got four assists, which is joint-highest in the Premier League right now, and by far the most successful dribbles. All that was missing was the goal, and I think that strike today will push him to the next level.”
Kudus’ goal and assist helped Tottenham hand Leeds United their first home league defeat in more than a year. Leeds last lost at Elland Road in September 2024 against Burnley in the Championship.
It was a wet afternoon in Leeds, but Kudus stood out with his creativity, pace, and composure. After Mathys Tel’s early goal, Leeds equalized through Noah Okafor, who reacted quickly after a save from Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. However, Kudus’ second-half strike ensured Tottenham returned to winning ways after two consecutive draws.
The victory moved Tottenham Hotspur up to second place in the Premier League table, just one point behind Liverpool, as the North London side continues to push for the top spot.
