HIGH COURTS FOR MUNICIPALITIES

MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLIES in the country are set to have their own high courts to help improve justice delivery in the country.

The positive development is a brainchild of the current Chief Justice, Her Lordship, Sophia Akufo.

According to her, it is her wish that justice delivery is brought closer to the citizenry in all corners of the country, especially in light of the difficulties people in some areas face in seeking justice.

“We want to make the justice system accessible for everybody in the country, without any discrimination.

“It is our idea that High Courts will be created in all the municipalities to help boost justice delivery.

“The municipal assemblies only have to build the high court building and accommodation for the judge”, she said.

Sophia Akufo assured that municipalities that would meet the criteria would get “a judge to start working there”.

The Chief Justice was speaking when she cut the tape to commission a district court at Asokore Mampong on Monday.

She said plans are also in the pipeline to upgrade all lower courts in the country to circuit court status.

Sophia Akufo lauded the Asokore Mampong MCE, Alidu Seidu, for his roles in building the district court, and expressed confidence that the court would help in efforts to reduce crime in the Asokore Mampong Municilality.

Hon. Alidu Seidu and Asokore Mamponghene, Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah were at the programme.
