Ho West NDC MP to Resign from Parliament

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ho West in the Volta Region, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, has announced that he will be resigning from his parliamentary duties.

Citi News sources in Parliament have confirmed that the MP has written to the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, informing him of his decision to exit.

The sources added that the leadership of the Minority side in Parliament are in a meeting to convince him to rescind his decision.

It is unclear what his reasons are, but there are suggestions that he may be unhappy with some internal party issues.

The MP’s decision to leave or stay will be known after the meeting with the Minority leadership, the source noted.

The NDC Minority currently has 106 MPs in parliament, as against the governing NPP’s 169.

But the Ho West Constituency, which is a stronghold of the NDC, will easily fall back to the party in case of a bye-election, should Mr. Bedzrah proceed with his decision to resign.

Mr. Bedzrah has been in Parliament on the ticket of the NDC since 2008, but there are suggestions he’s likely to lose out on the seat to another NDC candidate at the next polls in 2020.

The MP, a surveyor by profession, has been serving as a Ranking Member for the Government Assurance Committee, and is also a Chairman of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship.
