Hwidiem gets school at last

AFTER SEVERAL decades of appeal, the town of Hwidiem, in the Bantama Constituency, has gotten its first basic school to help in educating the youth.

The timely intervention of Francis Asenso-Boakye, a deputy Chief of Staff, who is a native of Bantama, helped in the opening of the basic school.

Christened as the ‘Hwidiem M/A Basic School’, the new school was built through funding from the GetFUND, following Asenso’s intervention.

The grand opening of the beautiful looking school was graced by Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi and officials of Ghana Education Service (GES).

Asenso-Boakye said he learnt that the youth of Hwidiem had to risk their lives by walking several miles, on a daily basis, in order to access education.

“I was not happy about the deplorable situation therefore I appealed to the Education Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and GetFUND to help us. My intervention eventually proved dividends with the construction of the beautiful edifice that we are officially opening here today”, Asenso indicated.

The deputy Chief of Staff, who is the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Bantama, said education is key to Ghana’s growth.

In this regard, he appealed to parents and guardians to continually invest in the education of their children, calling for good maintenance of the school.

Osei Assibey Antwi, the Kumasi Mayor, said the school was built at an amount of GHC926,791 and it boasts of six classrooms, six seater toilets, offices and other amenities.

David Oppong, Kumasi Metro Director of Education, charged parents and guardians to send their young children to school at least at age four.

The Hwidiem Kontihene, Nana Osei Gyamfi Kyeremanteng, commended Asenso-Boakye for his selfless and positive leadership qualities and urged him to sustain his good works.

The sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Daniel Okyem Aboagye and Asamoah Boateng aka ‘Asabee’, the CEO of State Interests and Governances Authority were there.
