I consult Otumfuo …Prez Akufo-Addo
PRESIDENT NANA Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed that he regularly consults the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for advice on some key national issues.
He divulged that the Asantehene was his adviser during his days as opposition leader and that he had not stopped soliciting for wise counsel from Otumfuo even as President.
He said he never regretted any of his consultations with the Asante King, adding that the wise counsels actually benefitted him.
“Otumfuo has helped me in diverse ways as I discuss virtually everything with him. This was the case when I was the opposition leader and is the same, now that I am President.”
President Akufo-Addo, who made the statements as he paid to tribute to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during his 20th anniversary on Sunday, said Ghana had benefitted immensely from Otumfuo during the last 20 years in the areas of education, health, peace-building and total transformation.
“Otumfuo is not for Asantes alone. He is a huge asset for the entire country and we are proud of his achievements”.
The president therefore used the historic occasion to pray fervently for sound health, long life and heavenly wisdom for Otumfuo so the country would continue to benefit from
Otumfuo ascended the Golden Stool on April 26, 1999 when he succeeded his late brother, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.
The Asantehene’s 20 years anniversary attracted both local and foreign dignitaries to the Manhyia Palace.
