I Haven’t Endorsed Any NDC Candidate ― Rawlings Booms

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has debunked claims that he has endorsed certain candidates in the upcoming national and flagbearer elections in the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

A statement signed by his Communications Director, Mr. Kobina Andoh Amoakwa, said media reportage asserting such notions should and must be disregarded.

“The Founder of the NDC wishes to make it clear that he has not endorsed any individual or group vying for roles in the party,” it stated

The statement added: “He reiterates that the consultative process which was initiated by the Council of Elders will not be stampeded.

“This should allow the party to pave way for the emergence of true and committed patriots, whose object and focus is to re-establish the noble core of our tradition and values.”

It can be recalled that prior to his official announcement to contest the position of flagbearer, former President John Mahama called on the NDC founder to notify him of his decision.

Though not in actual reference to a particular candidate, a Tweet by the office of JJR said, “It’s a low blow to bound some fine officers with questionable characters who have contributed to the decline of the NDC and invent a story about Rawlings endorsing such a contrasting lot.

“I endorse truth, integrity and commitment to the ideals that brought forth the party,” the tweet read.

The media is therefore encouraged to crosscheck information concerning the former President before publication to avoid the dissemination of false and propaganda related material, especially during the campaign for national office holders in the NDC.

The NDC is expected to go to polls to elect its National executives in November, 2018 and follow that up with the Flagbearer elections on December, 7.
