“I was homeless in London”- Sonnie Badu Shares Harrowing Journey to Success

Renowned Gospel Musician, Sonnie Badu, recently opened up about the challenges he faced during his first trip to the United Kingdom.

He shared that he was convinced by a pastor to travel to the UK to support him in his ministry work, but upon arriving, he found himself alone and devastated after being kicked out of the pastor’s home.

Speaking to a church congregation, Sonnie Badu recounted the difficult times he went through, describing how life became unbearable. He struggled to find enough food, sometimes going days without a proper meal. Homeless and without a place to stay, he resorted to sleeping in a car and occasionally on the cold streets of London.

During his darkest times, hunger forced him to take desperate measures, like sneaking into people’s homes when they were away to steal food from their fridges.

“I have struggled in life,” Sonnie Badu shared. “I was homeless in London. I slept in one car for a while. Sometimes I have to walk in the cold for five hours at night. At some point, I would wait for people to leave home then I would steal some food items from their fridge. I was finding it difficult to feed.”

Despite the hardships, Sonnie Badu held on to his faith. He questioned God’s presence in his life, wondering why he was enduring such suffering.

“So, I told God is this how he is going to watch me suffer. Can he not bless me with just a song to change my fortunes? Is this how I am going to sing for pastors to use me anyhow? But if God remembers you, he has remembered you. I never lost faith in him,” he shared in a video posted by the Instagram account @thosecalledcelebss.

Sonnie Badu emphasized that these struggles inspired many of his songs. His experiences of homelessness, hunger, and desperation are woven into the fabric of his music, serving as a reminder of the faith that sustained him during his most challenging times.
