Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he almost quit music just before releasing his hit song “With You” featuring Omah Lay.
In a now viral interview, the award-winning singer admitted he never expected the track to become the biggest hit on his latest album. He said the song’s huge success renewed his love for music at a time when he was thinking of taking a break after more than ten years in the industry.
Reflecting on his career, Davido said it is uncommon for an artist to experience such a major hit so late in their journey. He described the timing of the song’s success as divine, saying it came when he was ready to slow down.
“Some artists get that kind of song at the start of their careers, others in the middle. For me, 13–14 years in, I was even thinking of bowing out. Then God blessed me with this song. It added more life to my journey,” he said.
Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, is an American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer born on November 21, 1992. He rose to fame with his 2012 hit single “Dami Duro” from his debut album Omo Baba Olowo.
Today, Davido is widely recognised as one of Africa’s biggest and most influential music stars, known for his energy, creativity, and contribution to the global rise of Afrobeats.
