IGP commends Afenyo-Markin …for donating 3 district police stations, 2 pickups

James Oppong-Boanuh, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has commissioned the third District Police Headquarters in the Effutu Constituency in the Central Region, funded and handed over to the Police Administration by the Member of Parliament for the area, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The ultra modern Police facility, at Ateitu, a suburb of New Winneba in the Central region was commissioned by the IGP as the District Police Headquarters for Effutu North. It has an attached building that would house the New Winneba Police Station.

The Winneba Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service now have under it the Effutu East District Police Headquarters, the Effutu West District Police Headquarters and the Effutu North District Police Headquarters all funded by the MP, Afenyo-Markin within a period of one year.

In his address at the commissioning of the Effutu North District Police Headquarters last Friday July 2, the IGP, Mr. Oppong-Boanuh said new District Police Headquarters and the attached New Winneba Police station would cover about 14 towns in the area to facilitate an enhanced, better, effective, and efficient police operations.

The IGP noted that the new station is of great value and significant importance because the existing Effutu East and Effutu West Districts all under the Winneba Division were not enough to adequately ensure effective police visibility, crime prevention, and incident response.

Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh commended the MP, Mr. Afenyo-Markin for demonstrating a persistent commitment in support of the Ghana Police Service and the provision of security.

The IGP described the support of Afenyo-Markin as one that is worth emulating because modern policing is a shared responsibility that requires an effective partnership with civilians.

James Oppong-Boanuh said the partnership and support the Ghana Police Service is receiving from Afenyo-Markin would address the security concerns of the rapidly increasing population and expansion of socio-economic activities in Effutu.

“We need your cooperation since the police cannot do it all alone,” the IGP noted and further expressed gratitude to the Effutu Municipal Assembly as well as the Chief and people of Effutu for the persistent commitment to address the security needs of the expanding population.

He called for an enhanced police-civilian relation and said even when there is a misunderstanding or disagreement in that much-needed partnership, it should be resolved quickly and amicably in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

The Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCoP) Habiba Twumasi-Sarpong in her address said the Region has remained relatively calm after the Police introduced strategic measures to prevent crime and protect lives and properties.

DCoP Habiba Twumasi-Sarpong said “together with the public, the police are active partners to enhance safety and improve security for all” and this makes the gesture shown by Afenyo-Markin a very positive one that others should emulate.

Afenyo-Markin Factories

The Effutu MP, who doubles as the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Afenyo-Markin, speaking at the ceremony said the security of all residents in his constituency was of priority to him and that Effutu has to remain very safe for business to prosper and investors to feel secure to do business there.

Afenyo-Markin noted that the provision of employment and job security is a key factor in fighting crime in any community with a huge youthful population.

He announced that some new factories that would provide employment for the people of Effutu would be completed hopefully before the end of year and that one of such factories would manufacture tissue products.

Afenyo-Markin called on the people of Effutu, irrespective of their partisan ideologies, to support his efforts in developing the constituency.

“The Effutu Constituency deserves better and this is one of the numerous projects I have undertaken, I intend to do more to benefit us all and I can only do this with your undying support. I have a dream for Effutu and together we can make that dream come true. We have started, we are on course, let us continue to work hand in hand as one people.

“Effutu is one and there is only one Effutu; we do not have a CPP Effutu, NPP Effutu or NDC Effutu therefore as one people we must stay and work together to develop our Effutu to make it a better place for us all to live and do business in peace and in freedom, ” Afenyo-Markin added.
