AN INDIAN, Burkinabe and a Chinese national are in the firm grips of the law, having been arrested over illegal mining also known as ‘Galamsey’.
The security agencies busted the illegal miners when they were busily digging the ground and searching for gold at Asiwa in the Bosome Freho District.
The exercise was conducted by the police, national security, Immigration Service, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Minerals Commission.
The Friday afternoon security operation also led to the seizure of six mining excavators and other equipments, which belongs to the illegal miners.
Captain (Retired) John Jabari, the Acting Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, who was part of the operation, expressed joy over the arrests.
According to him, the unapproved and illegal operations of the illegal miners were fast destroying the environment and posing serious threat to the country.
He therefore said the various security agencies decided to unite and storm the illegal mining site and arrest the illegal miners, who were all foreigners.
Captain (Retired) Jabari said the security agencies would continue to team up and arrest the illegal miners in order to stop the destruction of the environment.
He also said the three foreigners have been handed over to the Immigration Service to investigate their status in the country before taking action on them.
