Inusah Fuseini Ridicules Minister Nominees

A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, says President Akufo-Addo’s nominees for the various deputy Minister portfolios is dependent on loyalty rather than competence to help build and grow the country.

According to him, several of the nominees are named based on one way or the other goodness they have exhibited unto the President and not solely on their deeds or capacity for the work ahead of them to do.

“Some of the deputy minister nominees were brought in solely because of their loyalty to the President. I don’t see it as loyalty to the party but rather to the President himself so because you duel an appointment on loyalty base, you’ll be tempted to sacrifice loyalty for competence – that’s what loyalty normally does” he said on Citi FM/TV‘s weekend current affairs programme, The Big Issue.

President Akufo-Addo last Wednesday announced the list of 39 deputy ministers appointed under 24 portfolios. The list included ten women and 39 men. Most of the nominees are parliamentarians.

Mr. Inusah Fuseini however indicated that, the list having more Members of Parliament leaving their parliamentary duties into the executive would see parliamentary work done by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)side wihich is the Minority Caucus instead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Majority Caucus.

“Problems are coming for him; he has appointed many of his ministers and deputies from parliament – that immediately reduces the number of MPs available on the NPP side in terms of very important matters. That is what we should be watching now, because their jobs will take them out of parliament, will take them out of the country and when critical matters come, it’ll be difficult to round around it. This parliament with the number differences to both side will be run by the opposition party due to the number of Ministers and Deputy’s picked from there because at no time will you find the full complement of the number that you’ll require from the majority side to transact business” he added.

Shock

He further expressed shock over the deputy ministerial role still assigned to the Member of Parliament for Akuapim South, O.B Amoah.

To him, O.B Amoah deserves an elevation to a ministerial role having served as deputy minister under the Kufour administration based on experience and longtime expertise on Trade issues.

“What at all has OB Amoah done in the NPP? He was deputy minister under Kufour and he is still continuing the deputy minister role under Akufo-Addo. What has he done? OB Amoah has been doing the entire job, he was a major point when Parliament was doing the constitutional amendment reforms. He has alluded himself through all the process to be elevated by now to a minister portfolio because of the tremendous work he has done for the NPP. I just don’t get it. Maybe he has done something in the party which is not known to us which has always seen him as deputy level because upwardly, he has a competent – manifest person.”
