President John Dramani Mahama has commented on American YouTube star IShowSpeed’s visit to the Shea Butter Museum in Accra during the streamer’s recent visit to Ghana as part of his 28-day Africa tour.
The President, who was amused by a video showing IShowSpeed receiving a traditional shea butter massage at the museum, said the YouTuber appeared to enjoy the experience so much that he believes the young American will return to Ghana.
Speaking at the launch of the SheaPark Resource Hub Project in Wa, he said, “Recently, my children were all excited about some young man from America called IShowSpeed who came to Ghana,” the President said with a smile. “One of them showed me a video of him in a shea butter museum. And this young man was lucky. I saw him lying down, and about ten girls, all with she abutter massaging this boy. The way he was enjoying it, he even opened his mouth as if he couldn’t breathe. That guy, I’m sure, would come back here.”
President Mahama also noted that the song sung by the women during the massage evoked memories of traditional games and songs from his own childhood.
The Shea Butter Museum, owned by Ghanaian entrepreneur and former beauty queen Hamamat Montia, promotes the cultural heritage of northern Ghana and showcases the richness of the shea industry across Africa. The museum displayed about 21 distinct types of shea butter sourced from different parts of Africa.
IShowSpeed’s visit to Ghana on January 26, 2026, attracted widespread attention. During the trip, he was given the Akan name Barima Kofi Akuffo at a ceremony in Akropong, performed a daring backflip at Independence Square, and took part in a boxing sparring session in Bukom, a suburb of Accra, among others.
His helicopter flight from Akropong to Accra reportedly became the most tracked flight worldwide on Flightradar24, with more than 3,000 people monitoring the journey in real time.
The visit has had a notable impact, with Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs approving a Ghanaian passport for the YouTuber, citing his established ancestral ties to the country through his mother.
Following IShowSpeed’s visit, the Shea Butter Museum recorded a surge in patronage, reaching maximum capacity.
