Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the Deputy Minority Whip in Parliament has issued an official statement to deny online news reports that he had threatened to resign as a Member of Parliament if former Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia gets elected as flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2028 elections.
Jerry Shaib, the Member of Parliament for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency said he had never made such comments in any manner or form to any individual or persons and it should be treated as false news.
The said report went viral online after it was put out by a shady online portal with the name opr.news
The MP and Deputy Minority Whip categorically denied the claims and said the report in its entirety is pure mischief.
The full statement, released by Jerry Ahemd Shiab reads:
FALSE STATEMENT ATTRIBUTED TO HON. JERRY AHMED SHAIB
CEASE, RETRACT, DESIST AND APOLOGISE!
My attention has been drawn to a false and misleading story circulating online, including a post on opr.news, bearing the headline:
“I Dare My NPP—I’ll Sell My Seat If Bawumia Is Mistakenly Elected as Flagbearer.”
I categorically deny ever making such a statement. I have not granted any interview formal or informal expressing such views. The story is entirely false, malicious, and clearly intended to mislead the public and sow division within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This is a blatant case of irresponsible journalism and the spread of fake news.
I urge the general public and all well-meaning Ghanaians to disregard this publication and treat it with the utter contempt it deserves. The story is not only a reckless piece of fabrication but also defamatory and calculated to lower my hard-earned reputation before right thinking members of society.
It is worth noting that the media outlet in question could not even provide details of when, where, or how this so-called interview was conducted—further proving the fictitious nature of the story.
In light of the above, I hereby demand an immediate cessation of further circulation of the false publication, a full retraction of the story and an unqualified public apology via the same channel through which the misinformation was originally shared.
Failure to comply will leave me with no choice but to pursue legal action to protect my name, integrity, and the dignity of the office I hold.
I remain committed to serving the people of Weija-Gbawe and to promoting unity within the NPP.
Signed,
Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib
2nd Deputy Minority Whip
Member of Parliament, Weija-Gbawe Constituency
