Jinapor sets out energy sector priorities in talks with World Bank delegation

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, says reducing system losses, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring affordable and reliable electricity for all Ghanaians will be his top priorities as government accelerates reforms in the power sector.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Dr Robert Taliercio, who paid a courtesy call to discuss deeper collaboration and sustained support for Ghana’s energy transition agenda.

The discussions focused on strategies to strengthen the country’s power supply system, address long-standing inefficiencies, and deliver lasting stability across the sector.

Mr Jinapor explained that the Ministry’s immediate goal is to cut technical and commercial losses that continue to drain sector revenues, while driving operational discipline among key agencies.

He added that guaranteeing dependable and reasonably priced power for households and businesses remains central to government’s broader agenda for a sustainable and resilient energy ecosystem.

He further highlighted the Ministry’s push to secure additional generation capacity at lower cost, supported by targeted investments in cleaner and more efficient energy sources.

The World Bank delegation pointed to the institution’s long-standing role as a strategic partner to Ghana’s energy sector.

Dr Taliercio assured the Minister of continued technical and financial assistance to help advance the government’s reform programmes and long-term sector objectives.
