Judge Says No to Lilwin’s ₵5m Court Case Delay

Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as Lilwin, has faced a legal setback after the High Court in Accra refused his request to temporarily stop a GH¢5 million defamation case brought by actress Martha Ankomah.

The court did not only reject his application to pause the case but also ordered him to pay GH¢5,000 in costs.

Lilwin’s lawyers asked the court to delay the case until the Court of Appeal makes a decision on an appeal about where the case should be heard. They argued that since Lilwin lives in Kumasi, the case should take place there, not in Accra.

However, Martha Ankomah’s lawyer, Nii Appiatu Plange, disagreed. He said the request was an attempt to delay the court process. He also said that the appeal had not gone far enough and that Lilwin had not shown the “exceptional circumstances” needed to stop the trial.

In his ruling, Justice Forson Baah Agyapong agreed with the plaintiff’s lawyer, saying: “The court is of the considered view that no exceptional circumstance has been professed.”

The defamation case is about comments Lilwin reportedly made in public that Martha Ankomah claims seriously damaged her reputation. Earlier attempts to settle the dispute outside court were not successful.

The court has now set the next hearing for 9 June 2025, when the main case will continue. During this hearing, audiovisual evidence supporting Ankomah’s claims is expected to be shown in court.
