Kaneshie market fire: traders suspect foul play

Fire has destroyed a section of the Kaneshie Central Market in Accra.

The fire which started during the wee hours of Sunday burnt some shops and destroyed properties running into thousands of cedis.

Although the cause of the fire is still unknown, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were on the scene to douse the raging flames.

The source of the fire is yet to be ascertained but the traders suspect foul play.

This comes after a portion of the Kantamanto market, also in the Central Business District of Accra burnt down last week.

The fire which affected the second-hand goods dealers in the market is still not known.

Reports said the fire started around 10 pm.

Fire fighters responded to the distress call and battled the fire in the night.

In another development, on Tuesday [December 15] fire gutted some shops in Koforidua in the Eastern Region and destroyed goods.

The Odawna market was also recently destroyed by fire.

Prior to this, there have been a series of fires in public spaces across the country.
