Killer robbers blow GHC 500,000 on Corrola and ‘Pragia’

The group of blood-thirsty and trigger-happy young men who robbed a Bullion Van that was transporting an amount of GHC 500,000 from the Ghana Commercial Bank at Dunkwa-On-Offin used most of the money in buying for themselves second hand card, motorbikes and a tricycle commonly known as ‘pragia’, Police investigations have revealed.

When they were finally arrested, the money was left with just GHC 53,934. They had blown the rest as if tomorrow would never come. The cars and other items have since been taken from them while police investigations continue.

The five suspects are yet to explain why they shot and killed a policeman who was guarding the Bullion van when they attacked it at Adansi Nyankomasu in the Adansi Fomena District in the Ashanti Region.

The five suspects, who are all males, and the items they used the stolen booty to purchase, as well as an amount of GHC 53,934, are in police custody now and efforts are also being made to arrest their ringleader, John Appiah alias ‘Omega’, a 22 year old SHS graduate.

The five suspects currently in police custody are Bismark Owusu Ansah alias ‘Obese’ aged 29, Azumah Titus aged 23, Kofi Mathew alias ‘Wiser’ aged 24, Kwadwo Agyapong alias ‘Labista’ aged 30, and Martin Tei alias ‘Kwadwo Darko’ aged 26.

Police intelligence established the identity of the suspects and arrested them at their various hideouts at Techiman, in the Bono East Region, Kumasi, in the Ashanti Regional capital and Kasoa, also in the Central Region.

“Subsequent to their arrest, a cash sum of amount of GHS53, 934.00 together two Toyota Collora Saloon car, one Tricycle (Pragia ) and two motor bikes were retrieved from the suspects”, the police has publicly announced.

“The suspects admitted the offence during interrogation and said they acquired the items mentioned above out of their share of the booty”, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Kwasi Mensah Duku told journalists.

The police Commander also indicated that other personal effects, suspected to have been bought from the booty, were also retrieved and retained for evidential purposes, adding that other suspects were being chased by police.

COP Kwasi Duku said Omega was linked with several top robbery cases across the country “he has also recruited other criminal gangs in other parts of the country and calls on them to embark on his robbery escapades when the need arises

It would be recalled that some highway robbers attacked a Bullion Van of Delta Security Company and killed a police escort before bolting with Ghc 500,000 that was being transported from the Ghana commercial Bank Dunkwa-On-Offin branch to the New Edubiase branch, few months ago.
