KNUST Students Face Sack Over Legon Fracas

SOME STUDENTS of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi are likely to be sacked from the institution.

The students would suffer the punitive measure if they are found guilty of acts of violence and breaching of the university’s regulations.

This follows reports that some KNUST students had fought with their colleagues at the University of Ghana, at Legon in Accra, some days ago.

The fracas, reported to be very violent, was said to have been recorded on video, and had since gone viral on social media.

Mr. Kwame Yeboah, the KNUST Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the university authorities did not sanction for the students to travel to Accra, where they were reportedly involved in violence with their Legon counterparts.

“Definitely, the KNUST students involved in the brawl at Legon in Accra will face punitive measures if they are found guilty after investigations.

“Those students travelled to Accra without the permission of the KNUST authorities and so it is likely that they will be punished.

“Suspension from the school is one of the likely punitive measures that face such students”, Mr. Yeboah said during an interview with Nhyira FM in Kumasi.

He lamented that, even though the students informed the authorities about an upcoming debate at the University of Ghana in Legon, the KNUST authorities did not grant the students permission to go for the event, only to hear about the disturbing brawl in Accra.
