Kofi Okyere Darko, widely known as KOD and currently the Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency, has shared a heartfelt story about his early connection with Ghanaian business mogul Dr. Osei Kwame Despite.
According to him, he once sold music CDs and cassettes for Dr. Despite while still in secondary school.
KOD made this revelation during an interview with blogger GH Hyper at the grand opening of the Despite Automobile Museum in East Legon on June 1, 2025.
Dressed in a stylish lace shirt, white trousers, and black shoes, KOD stood out at the prestigious event, which was attended by dignitaries including His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and other influential figures.
He recalled how, as a teenager, he worked from Daddy Lumba’s shop, helping sell music CDs and tapes, a job that gave him his first exposure to the music and entertainment industry.
“When I was a teenager, I used to sell cassette and I worked from Lumba’s shop and I worked for Despite. That was my secondary school job. My introduction to the music industry and everything, this is part of the story,” KOD said.
He added that his relationship with Dr. Despite began from those early days and has remained strong over the years. He credits that experience as a stepping stone to his successful career in media and entertainment.
KOD also revealed that he was among the early voices expected to join Peace FM when it was being set up, but his role at Radio Gold at the time prevented him from joining the station publicly.
“When Peace FM was being established, I was one of the quiet voices that was going to start but I was working at Radio Gold so I couldn’t show my face,” he explained.
He praised Dr. Despite’s journey as inspiring and called him “Bra Osei,” showing his continued admiration and respect. A video of his remarks, filled with admiration and memories, has since been shared widely on social media.
