Kotoko Demand Swift Justice in Murder Case Of Nana Pooley

Asante Kotoko have voiced frustration over the slow progress in the case involving the death of their supporter, Nana Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.

The tragic incident happened more than seven months ago, yet no one has been convicted.

Pooley was stabbed to death on February 2 during last season’s Ghana Premier League match between Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC. His murder shocked the football community and forced a long pause in the league. It has now been 226 days since the incident, but the case still lingers in court, with eight people standing trial.

Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, told JoySports that the club is unhappy with the delays but recognizes that the matter lies in the hands of the state.

“The matter is pending in court; it is for the state because this is a criminal issue. Last Wednesday, we were in court and the case was adjourned to October 9. All we are waiting for is for the processes to be sped up. You cannot put blame on anybody because of the nature of our judicial system. It has always been slow,” he explained

The stabbing incident disrupted last season’s league campaign, which was suspended for more than a month. During that period, stakeholders introduced new safety and security measures aimed at preventing future violence at match venues. Nsoatreman FC also withdrew from the competition after the act of hooliganism.

Despite the painful memories, Kotoko managed to finish third in the league. The club has since begun the new season on a positive note, securing a 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea at Golden City Park.

Still, Kotoko insist that justice for Pooley must not be delayed, calling for authorities to speed up the trial and bring closure to the matter.
