Ghanaian international footballer Mohammed Kudus has revealed that he has set new goals for himself after achieving many of the dreams he had as a young player.
The 24-year-old began his football journey in Nima, a suburb of Accra, and has worked hard to rise through the ranks. He currently plays for English Premier League side West Ham United.
In an interview with NBC Sports, Kudus thanked his family for the sacrifices they made to help him reach this level.
“It means a lot, but I don’t think they [my family] are too surprised because they put in the effort for me and pushed me to get to this point. All credit to them. This is just the beginning. I still have a lot of goals and things I want to achieve. I’ve reached some goals, but I set new ones and will keep aiming high until whenever I hang up my boots,” Kudus said
Despite not being in top form this season, Kudus remains an important player for West Ham. Reports suggest that top clubs in Europe, including Liverpool, are monitoring him closely for a possible transfer.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Kudus also encouraged African players to showcase their skills and not let themselves be limited by stereotypes. He was responding to UK-based Ghanaian rapper Gunva B, who asked about how African players are often described in the media.
“Mostly, when African players are being described, it’s more about their physique, strength, and their speed,” Kudus said. “In my eyes, I believe that we have skilful players. I would urge more African players to be who they are and enjoy their qualities.”
He praised former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, saying the Ivorian legend was often underrated. “Yaya Toure was crazy, untouchable. He had more than pace and power. You need a lot of flair to beat players,” Kudus added.
